Blog land is so very interesting.
I started blogging for First Day of My Life in the summer of 2011. I was so excited to start. Blogging still makes me happy - and excited. I really do absolutely adore it. I've met so many wonderful ladies. I love that I have a place to go to vent or to go to if I need support. It's wonderful.
I feel like one of the point of blogging is to share your story - share your thoughts - opinions - etc. but also, to get to know other bloggers. In doing so, you comment on other's blogs. (This goes for twitter or even pinterest, too!)
Have you found yourself treating a fellow blogger differently if they have more followers than you? Or if they have more comments in a particular post as you?
I've had some conversations with people lately that have felt like this. If a blogger has more followers than you, you feel like they are part of the "popular" crowd and a type of celebrity.
This isn't true.
Yes, they might get more "fan mail" than you. But they are still a blogger - just like you.
We all want to know we have 1,000 people visiting our blog a day. If we put forth effort into it - that will happen...but then blogging turns into a popularity contest and that isn't what blogging is.
The next time you post on a blogger's wall or tweet to someone that has four times as many followers as you - remember, they're just people. Just like celebrities - it's just a person. Yes, they might be incredibly popular...but they're just like you and me. Don't treat them any different - just treat them how you want to be treated...with love, care, and respect.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Ok, I'm going to stop rambling and show you my pretty pretty nails ;)
OH so I finally got that Seche Vite some of you ladies told me about - I tried it for the first time last night - not with this color, but another. I'll blog about it next Friday - especially because I'm dying to see how long it's going to last :D
It's gloomy here today on the beach - hope you have lots of sunshine where you are <3
Great post lady! I definitely agree. Also, those nails are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOMG I love this color! I seriously had it in my hands last night and almost got it but decided to go with the neutral instead ... its a gorgeous color!
ReplyDeleteI love this post SO much!! Cami, you are one of my favorite bloggers!! I think what makes a blogger 'popular' and 'likeable' is their ability to connect with their followers. Doesn't matter how many followers they have as long as they show some kind of connection to them :)
ReplyDeleteWow your nails are amazing! I love that color, but I don't think I can pull off orangeish nails!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty color, love the name too!

Great post!! I love it! I love that orange polish too. That's one of my favorite colors to put on my toes during the summer. =)
ReplyDeleteWhere in Florida are you? I'm wayyy up in the panhandle. =)
Ooh love that nail polish, orange is so popular right now! And I totally agree with this post, it can be hard not to compare yourself to other bloggers but at the end of the day you should blog for yourself and no one else :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I definitely feel like this sometimes, for instance when I opened this post and you said you only started your blog last summer and I looked and saw how many followers you had I was like "Really?!" I've been blogging for a year now and only have 49 :0(
ReplyDeleteIt has recently been picking up lately which makes me super happy, but I'm not understanding the secret between those who grow a following of hundreds or even over a thousand in a short period of time and others of us that struggle to get to 50. *sigh*
Thanks for the words of encouragement.
Love the nail polish! So pretty!
I totally agree with you. I vowed when I started my blog I'd never let any of that get to me, and for the most part I feel like I haven't. When I comment or follow a blog it's because I feel like I have a connection with that person, so there shouldn't be a reason to feel intimidation. If anything, I hope to learn something from that person on how to make my blog as big of a success :)
ReplyDeleteLove the nail polish color! I agree that the whole point of blogging is to share your story and to share information and not a popularity contest......I have been out of high school way too long to have to go through the whole popularity contest thing again...LOL. I recently found your blog on a blog hop and am now one of your newest followers. You have a great blog and I am looking forward to future posts from you!
ReplyDeletethis post was really awesome, girl! so true! and your nails look super cute! :) hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI love that color, so pretty! :)
Great nails!! The name is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. You know what cracks me up...
When a person visits a blog and literally says, "I'm a new follower...follow me back!"
Really?! Haha
You know they totally didn't read a thing you wrote...
Still, I'm too nice I guess. And follow them and leave some love.
#s are silly.
I agree! Xoxoxo
Great post, and so very true! It's hard to have conversations with the "bigger" bloggers for me. Makes me feel small....which is ridiculous. And I need to get over it!
ReplyDeleteI'm Lynn from Scrapity Anne and I found you through 7 Kids and Counting's blog hop. I've followed you and hpe that you can do the same for me.
Gorgeous nails!! and great post! ... it's important to remember blogging is for YOURSELF first. a way of expressing and sharing your thoughts, talents, opinions, passions, and anything you wish.
ReplyDelete"Popular crowd" ~ if there is such a thing you my friend are in it!! You have a great blog ~ people may not always comment .. but you would be amazed at how many are ready your posts. wishing a wonderful evening..xo HHL
I love that you posted this! I totally agree with it. My sister in law is pretty popular in blog land and it's funny how people always tell me how lucky I am that she's my SIL. Well.... we've pretty much got the same personality and we make our fun together. We're pretty lucky to have each other :) Because we are both JUST people.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I met you through our swap and hope I get to meet you when/if you come to town :)I agree about the numbers, it seems like the more followers/comments a blogger has the more people feel they can just be rude to them, as if they are not people. =( it makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I am NOT an orange liker. At all. But that is a really GREAT shade of nail polish. I might have to keep my eye out for it :)
