Only the Good Die Young

This post isn't meant for a pity party. I just need somewhere to get it out - and that's what First Day of My Life is for - right?

One of the girls I went to college with at Stetson has passed away.

We had some classes together, she lives in my dorm the first couple of years, she was good friends with a guy I was dating at the time - so we hung out and became friends.

A couple of years ago, she was diagnosed with mouth cancer...went through chemo, treatment, etc. She was in remission. Recently, they found that it had went to her kidneys and lungs. Just two days ago, they medically induced her into coma...guess they had no other options. This morning, she passed away.

This girl was beautiful - inside AND out. Seriously so gorgeous...I always looked at her for a little bit of fashion tips...she had it all. She loved life and lived it so well.

I'm having a really tough time comprehending it. She was only 24. 24! She has so many friends it's amazing - and a beautiful family that supported her in all decisions. Her + her boyfriend were so in love. She knew how to have fun + she always did.

Why was she taken away from all of those who loved her AND she loved?? It just doesn't make sense.

I know that that is where faith + God comes in. But it's something I struggle with. For me, it's hard to accept. Yes, maybe many will come to Jesus because of this tragedy...but why can't they do it in another manner when this beautiful girl enjoys her life.

It's certainly a reminder to live life to the fullest, love all + tell them, have no fears there may not be a tomorrow, etc.

Love you all oodles!

  2. Cami I'm so sorry to hear this. It does make you question why when something like this happens. Everything happens for a reason though. It's always good to remember that tomorrow is not promised.

  3. Sweet Cami! I am so, so, so sorry to hear this. It breaks my heart. I know what you are going through. Had a friend pass away a few weeks ago leaving his 10 month old son + wife. He was 29. He died of a massive heart attack. :( So young and so much to live for. However, we can not ask why. I know this is hard..and I have done so in the past with several issues. We can only pray for comfort for our broken hearts and that God will send us our saving Grace. He needed her. She has no more struggles. May her life be remembered through all the memories that were made. God bless you sweetie! I am sending prayers! ♥

  5. So sorry about your friend, Cami. Sometimes it is hard to understand why things happen as they do and I don't suppose we will ever understand until we meet with our Maker.
    Much love to you today.

  7. A loss like this is always so difficult. I also have a hard time understanding why people so young are taken from us, it is really hard to wrap my head around. You and those close to your friend are in my thoughts!

  15. I'm so sorry she didn't make it! :-( When I got your text last night to pray, I did, but I prayed that God's will be done. As difficult as it is to accept, sometimes God's will doesn't make sense. Not to compare the two things, but you know how Vance and I have been trying to have a baby for almost two years, right? Something I am CONSTANTLY reminded about is that God's timing and plan is far better than my own. God knows what he's doing, regardless of if we understand it or agree with it. That doesn't mean we don't/won't question him. That doesn't mean we won't be hurt. That doesn't mean we won't be angry. But ya know what? It's ok to feel all of those things. God can take it. He's so strong. He can take the questions, the anger, the sadness. He actually ASKS for it!

    Matthew 11:28-30
    English Standard Version (ESV)
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

    Psalm 55:22
    English Standard Version (ESV)
22 Cast your burden on the Lord,
    and he will sustain you;
    he will never permit
    the righteous to be moved.

Hang in there, Sweetie! I'm here for you! I love you!

  18. I'm so sorry for your loss and am reminded of your exact feelings when my best friend died at 24 as well. She was driving to play at a church service and never made it as she was hit by a drunk driver. I wondered also why people couldn't come to Jesus another way. Thoughts that I still have at times and it's been over 20 years. She will have a special place in your heart, I"m sure. You have a great blog here.
